A stitched (ready to wear) Ajrak block printed cotton saree, made using natural (vegetable) dyes and traditional teak wood blocks. It’s a beautiful, one-of-a-kind addition to any wardrobe, and can be worn in myriad of ways.
Ajrak printing is possibly the oldest known block printing method, and dates back to Indus Valley Civilisation. It only uses natural, plant based material, and is mostly found in deep crimson and indigo shades. It takes approximately 2-3 weeks to produce an Ajrak, and is a laborious process that requires skills honed over time.
Made in Sindh, Ajrak is a matter of pride and a cultural symbol for the natives. Artisans who worked on this have been involved in Ajrak making for decades, and the craft is passed on from one generation to another. Making the best of high temperatures during daytime by drying the fabric between multiple dyeing and printing sessions, Ajrak and Sindh have found a rhythm of their own and we are honoured to bring this indigenous craft to Europe in its most organic form.
This Ajrak cotton saree can be paired with a plain black blouse, or colour blocked (e.g. fuchsia with indigo). It is stitched, which means that it is already pleated for you.
